Two new yoga apps to be launched on International Yoga Day

The Ministry of AYUSH plans to launch two new mobile applications – Yoga Locator and Bhuvan App on the International Day of Yoga (IDY) i.e. June 21.

The Yoga Locator application is specially designed for IDY to record and show yoga events across the world and Bhuvan App has been designed in collaboration with ISRO. It will provide geo time location and documentation.

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH announced this information on the sidelines of a two-day Yoga Mahotsava, a curtain raiser for the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2019.

Organised by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) under Ministry of AYUSH, the event was inaugurated by Rajiv Kumar, Vice-Chairman, NITI AYOG in New Delhi to sensitise the masses for the celebration of IDY 2019.

Addressing the huge gathering of Yoga students and professionals, Kumar emphasised on popularising the yogic culture through the medium of social media. He mentioned his proposal of National Council of Integrated Medicine which will further promote Indian natural and traditional medicine culture. He further highlighted that Yoga teaches us to live with nature rather than conquering it that makes ‘Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam’ possible in harmony and peace. He presented ‘Yoga for Heart’ as the theme for IDY 2019.

Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of AYUSH presided over the inaugural session and credited International Yoga Day as the biggest mass movement for health and wellness. He said that natural and traditional medicine system is flourishing not only in India but across the globe and further assured that Ministry of AYUSH is committed towards the research and development of yoga, Ayurveda and other natural and traditional medicinal systems.

Meenakshi Lekhi, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, Dr. H R Nagendra, Chancellor, SVYASA University, Bengaluru and Hansa Jaidev, Director, The Yoga Institute, Mumbai, were present on this occasion.
