Beginning November, the Vietnamese Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) – VietJet Air will commence direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City and New Delhi, confirmed Nguyen Le Thanh, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam at the Vietnam Tourism Kolkata roadshow. VietJet Air will fly four days a week to serve the travel demands and to contribute to the region’s trade exchange.
In May, Indian LCC IndiGo also announced plans to launch flights to 24 new international destinations, including Vietnam, in the next 18 months i.e. between March 2019 to October 2019.
“Vietnam has emerged as an important travel destination for Indians and the business and MICE travellers from India are growing. However, out of the 20 million Indians who travel overseas every year, Vietnam is getting 90,000 annually. That is a small number when we see the outbound travel potential from the Indian market. Additionally, as India accounts for one-third of the total tourism to the South East Asian nations, it holds a very significant position for Vietnam. Networking with travel trade and the hassle-free e-visa scheme will push the envelope further,” said Thang.
“Vietnam is a tourist destination featuring the culture capital of Ha Noi, a romantic citadel of Hue, magnificent Quang Binh and Da Nang, and the economic hub of Ho Chi Minh city. From Kolkata, which is the gateway to Eastern India, we witnessed enhanced interest to visit Vietnam. I am hopeful that we’ll be able to generate good business from this market post the roadshow,” added Palanisamy Annamalai, Sales Manager – India, ICS Travel Group.
Suppliers such as Thai Airways, ICS Travel group, Hello Asia Travel, Melia Hotels International, Victoria Tours, etc. participated at the Kolkata leg of the roadshow.
OM Tourism on behalf of Vietnam Embassy organised the event at the Park Hotel, Kolkata.
